Our metallic Lewis Chess set is something to behold. They are approximately double the weight of the crushed marble versions. Cast in metal with a copper and steel/pewter finish, the pieces feel remarkable, and look superb too. Each piece is then finished off with the application of a protective base and presented in a beautiful yet practical packaging. Individually, each piece is a delight to behold, finely detailed and beautifully balanced.

The Lewis Chess Set - 'Scotland's Hidden Secret'
The romance of the mystery of its discovery on a remote beach, perhaps near Uig on the Isle of Lewis some time before 11 April 1831, is loved by Scots and further adds to this land of mist, myths and legend. Is it true that they were found in a sandbank by a farmer who mistook the pieces for elves and promptly fled, then returning to retrieve them only due to his wife urging? Historian believe the pieces were probably made in Norway about AD 1150-1200. The Western Isles at this time were of the Kingdom of Norway, not Scotland. The belief is that the pieces were buried for safe keeping on route to be traded in Ireland. The plot thickens…
